Welcome to the website of the Institute of Systemic Therapy Thessaloniki. The ISTT was established in 2004 with the aim of supporting individuals, couples, families, groups and organizations that are in states of development, change or crisis.
Furthermore it is our intention to contribute to the application and spread of systemic theory and practice.
We view and seek to understand behaviour in regards to its context and we see behaviour as being linked within a chain of reactions and events. Our aim is to evoke and support people’s processes, such that alternative options emerge either on a personal or a professional level.
Our core values are respecting people and providing therapy and training of high quality.
The Institute of Systemic Therapy Thessaloniki is certified as a training institute in systemic therapy by the Training Institutes Chamber of the European Family Therapy Association (EFTA TIC) and the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP, NOPG). Our graduates may apply directly for the European Certificate of Psychotherapy (ECP).
Please don’t hesitate to contact us, if you need further information or want an appointment or wish to participate in a group or seminar.
Thank you for your interest and I hope that you find here what meets your needs,
Virginia Ioannidou

The Institute of Systemic Therapy Thessaloniki (full member of EFTA and EAP, NOPG) offers a 4-years training program in systemic therapy, with core trainers Virginia Ioannidou and Achilleas Prokopiou. Among others the training includes systemic psychodrama and the program of systemic couples’ therapy. It mainly addresses mental health professionals, but also students and individuals interested in personal growth issues and human communication.
In an environment of trust and confidence we aimto accept and understand the client’s thoughts and feelings. Each individual is given the chance:
• to reflect on his or her current circumstances
• to re-examine already tried solutions
• to change perspective
• to explore alternative options
• to discover new patterns for his or her relationships.
The training in systemic couples’ therapy takes place in Thessaloniki and online (10 weekends). It is of great use for those working in counselling or psychotherapy, not only with couples, but also with individuals, families and children. You may register for the next cycle.
These coaching-seminars are for professionals working in a group context or facilitating groups, i.e., mental health professionals, teachers, employees in companies and organizations etc. The participants will become acquainted with useful concepts and models about how groups and teams function as well as methods of constructive communication and conflict resolution.
The Art of Being a Couple. A Systemic Approach, a book written in Greek by Virginia Ioannidou, published in March, 2012.
It is an art to keep a close relationship alive over time and, like any other art, it has its secrets. Many of these secrets are illustrated in this book. Here the reader is invited to consider the meaning of what is happening in his or her close relationship, to experiment with alternative perspectives and options, and consequently to find novel solutions to his or her possible difficulties.
